In a nutshell We are looking for a Principal Cloud Engineer to join our expanding teamto continuously deliver, enhance and support our business applicationsacross production and non-production environments. We’re looking forsomeone who is passionate about automation and is relentlessly seekingways to improve platform stability and increase the pace of change,whilst protecting service and increasing the business value. What I need to do Ensure scalability, reliability, security and efficiency of Sainsbury’s systems. Design and build large scale distributed systems. Be hands-on, highly technical with strong experience in systems engineering. Act as a subject matter expert on at least one application with the scope of the team. Working with other engineering teams to accelerate software delivery. Build automation to prevent problem recurrence. Help shaping our organisation’s culture. Help define processes and standards, following industry best practices. Coach and mentor other team members. Participate in a 24/7 on call rota as required. What I need to know In-depth understanding of: Linux and Microsoft operating systems; delivering Infrastructure, Platform and Software as a Service solutions using Public Cloud services, such as AWS, Azure and Google, and open source technologies such as Ansible, Chef, Terraform, and Jenkins; managing source code and package repositories such as GitHub, Visual Source Safe and Aptly; experience with databases – MS SWL, Oracle, DB21, MySQL and AWS RDS, NoSQL; virtualisation and automation solutions. What I need to show Experience in one or more of these programming languages: Ruby, Python, Go or Shell. Networking experience and understanding of network protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, etc) OSI layers, DNS, VPN, Firewall and load balancing. Proven experience working with Infrastructure as Code, configuration management systems and CI/CD. Operational experience working with large, highly available, highly transactional systems on private and public clouds. An understanding of how to analyze and present operational metrics and use that data to optimize systems.
