Hohner Automation Ltd
Job Description
Job Opportunity – Hohner Automation Ltd (Wrexham)
Hohner Automation is a small engineering company which has been established in Wrexham since 1980 designing and manufacturing electro-mechanical sensors for industry and primarily the oil & gas sector.
Historically our products have been supplied to a wide range of industries covering many sectors but at the turn of the millennium the company changed its focus towards the Oil and Gas sector; this move into a more niche and lucrative market proved to be a success as now 80% of our sales are attributed to this sector. Since diversifying we have expanded our range of products to include more sensors that are specific to the oil & gas sector; for example geological surveying systems (also known as mud logging systems). Strict legislation covers the use of products in hazardous location (hazloc for short) and all of our products have to be fully certified to comply with this legislation.
Despite our relatively small size we have developed close working relationships with the world’s major oil service companies and rig system manufacturers including Haliburton and National Oilwell Varco.
Our site in Wrexham has 15 employees and houses a manufacturing facility and a fully functioning CNC mechanical workshop. We consider ourselves to be an ambitious dynamic and innovative company with an appetite for growth with the long-term goal of being one of the leading suppliers in our sector.
The company is looking to expand its R&D department and is therefore looking for an experienced electronic engineer who would take a senior role within the company. The successful candidate will be working on several projects based within the design department which will involve various disciplines including electronic design and testing, project management and liaising with other departments within the company.
Personal development must be of a high standard with the ability to work on one’s own initiative together with excellent communication and I.T. skills. General engineering skills are assumed (soldering and ability to carry out fault finding down to component level) together with excellent test and measurement knowledge being applied from product conception through to production-ready parts. Good knowledge of EMC principles is required. Hazardous Area training will be given as part of the role, as this is integral in determining the requirements and limitations for the majority of our designs.
We are seeking a Degree educated person in electrical / electronic engineering with the following core skills:
In-depth knowledge of low voltage analogue and digital circuit design.
Programming skills specifically related to the PIC MCU.
Proficient in C language coding.
Communication protocols (RS232, RS485, XML Code and ASCII etc).
PCB design and artwork experience.
At least 5 years experience as a time-served engineer.
Desired Skills:
Electro-mechanical skills.
In-depth knowledge of optoelectronics (LED’s and Phototransistors).
Knowledge and use of calibrated engineering equipment.
Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Knowledge of Radar / Sonar / 3D imaging technology.
Knowledge of Load cell design.
Anything encoder related, primarily dealing with rotating electrical machines.
Knowledge and understanding of technical drawings (2D and 3D).
A working knowledge of AutoCAD.
Knowledge of Hazardous areas (Flameproof and Intrinsic Safety) would be advantageous.
Strong mathematically.
Knowledge of CNC Lathes and Milling Machines.
Presentation / Sales skills when meeting existing / potential customers.
